Lutherans For Life of Iowa

Dear Friends,

The Creation explained in God’s Word is real. It is true.  It is also under attack.  The theory of evolution directly opposes everything that is of God.   It attacks the very core of the “for life” message. It hammers away the foundations of marriage, family, and a future of hope.  The religion of evolution – left unchallenged – threatens to silence those who speak up “for life.”

Lutherans For Life of Iowa invites you aboard the ms Westerdam for a week of renewal, encouragement, and education.  God’s Word – even in the midst of this battle of worldviews – reminds us that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.  (Eccl. 3:1-8) So, come!  Explore the majestic coast of Alaska while also equipping yourself to defend the Biblical worldview.  On this “Cruise for Life” you will enjoy five-star accommodations, gourmet cuisine, and nature’s beauty.  You and your family may consider exciting adventures in ports of call such as Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria, British Columbia. Most importantly, you will learn how to use God’s Word in your daily life. Brian Young, founder of Creation Instruction Association, will lead daily sessions and invigorating discussion.  Ed Szeto and Linda Bartlett will address foundational truths that are under fire such as Biblical manhood and womanhood, procreation, and ethics in medicine.

Generations – young and old – are needed not only to stand on the Truth, but live it!  Daily devotions, workshops, and lively “deck fellowship” on this “Cruise for Life” can encourage generations to remain faithful to the Word and thus, transform the culture! To help make this possible, LFL of Iowa has limited scholarships available for young parents and for students preparing for seminary, Lutheran education, or the deaconess program. Inquiries may be made by calling Mary at (641) 869-3838.

Please explore this brochure for more details concerning LFL of Iowa’s “Cruise for Life.” Then call Inspiration Cruises and Tours at 1-800-247-1899 for reservations. Remember! The God we build our pro-life ministry upon is the Creator God – the God who was there when Alaska, the world, and everything in it was wondrously created!

Day at Sea (August 4)

Cruising Glacier Bay National Park (August 5, 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.) This is truly a high point of your voyage — cruising Glacier Bay. You sail quietly over still waters and watch as massive slabs of ice break off the glacial walls and thunder into the bay. Look for wildlife sharing the serenity of this beautiful bay: whales, otters, seals, eagles, and a large variety of marine birds. An onboard naturalist is there to answer all of your questions.

Juneau (August 6, 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.)–Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, the town of Juneau has the massive Mendenhall Glacier and the immense Juneau Icefields at its back door. Visit the rustic shops in town. Or get out and kayak, dogsled, raft, bike, hike, heli-hike, flightsee, or fish. There’s no end to the adventure because we’re in port long enough to truly take advantage of the long daylight hours.

Sitka (August 7, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.)–Sitka is blessed with abundant marine wildife. Get out on the water aboard a dayboat or kayak, and you’ll pass seal haul-outs and seabird rookeries filled with nature’s sights and sounds.

Ketchikan (August 8, 7:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.)–Built out over the water and climbing weathered stairways, Ketchikan clings to the shores of Tongass Narrows. Visit Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park, and the Saxman Village. There are numerous galleries exhibiting Native art and works by talented local artisans. A floatplane flightseeing trip to breathtaking Misty Fjords National Monument is a transforming adventure not to be missed.

Victoria, B.C., Canada (August 9, 6:00 p.m.–Midnight)–Stroll through the charming downtown of this very British city, with its double-decker buses, turreted castles, fine British woolens, tea, and china. Or just outside the city, visit the lush flora and fauna of Butchart Gardens.
