Candy - the old fashioned way!

If there’s one thing that satisfies my traveling heart, it’s finding that little hole-in-the-wall eatery that only the locals know about. Those special little nooks are filled with good food and happy memories. One of those places (possibly my favorite) is KetchiCandies. If you have even one little sliver of a sweet-tooth, you must stop here on your visit to Ketchikan, Alaska. Their handcrafted candies are lovingly made in copper pots – cooked, cooled and packaged right in the store. From melt-in-your-mouth truffles, to chewy saltwater taffies, there is a treat for everyone. (They even have sugar-free for you health-nuts out there!)

I recently called KetchiCandies to find out the background story to their business. After all, a good candy shop is sure to have a sweet tale behind it. The store owner, Mr. Steven Thomas, graciously took my call, but assured me that he was so busy making candy that he didn’t have enough time to tell the long story that led up to KetchiCandies.

So, when you have a chance to stop by, would you do me a favor? Purchase a chocolate-dipped Oreo (our staff favorite) and see if you can get just a piece of the journey that led up to the store. Then we can link in all the tidbits for a tasty little story in the end. And can I ask one more thing of you? Give Mr. Thomas a pat on the back and thank him for making the world a happier, chocolatier place.
